Terri Lefler, MS, CGC, Lead Genetic Counselor
Terri Lefler is an instructor in the Feinberg School of Medicine. She received her master’s degree in genetic counseling from The University of Michigan in 1990 and was certified by the ABGC in 1993. She has extensive experience in the area of prenatal and preconception genetic counseling and has worked at several Chicago-area hospitals, including NorthShore University Hospital (previously Evanston Hospital), The University of Chicago, and AMITA Health Hinsdale Hospital. She helped to develop cancer genetic counseling services while at AMITA Health prior to joining Northwestern in 2016.
Here, Terri provides both comprehensive prenatal & preconception genetic counseling for a variety of indications as well as cancer genetic counseling for hereditary cancer syndromes. As a genetic counselor with experience in both arenas, Terri is able to offer a unique perspective for those families who have risk factors for hereditary cancer but who are also considering their reproductive options. Terri’s clinical interests include decision-making and the psychosocial issues surrounding genetic testing, both in the prenatal and cancer testing realms, as well as supervision and development of genetic counseling graduate students. She also contributes to clinical research studies in cancer and reproductive genetics. |
