Genetic Counselors
Genetic counselors are healthcare professionals with expertise in the field of genetics. As master’s-degree providers, they receive specialized training in both medical genetics and counseling to help individuals and their families understand how inherited diseases may impact their medical care. Genetic counselors work in a wide variety of settings, providing a number of different services.
The genetic counselors in the Division of Clinical Genetics are licensed by the State of Illinois and are deemed board-certified/eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). Specializing in reproductive and cancer genetics, our genetic counselors can help you to understand genetic inheritance, cancer and/or reproductive risk, genetic testing options, interpretation of genetic testing results, recommendations for medical care, and much more.
To find out more about genetic counselors, please visit the National Society of Genetic Counselors website: nsgc.org.
